Lesson Overview: As part of my multiliteracies course, my group developed a math lesson for the linear relations unit in MPM2D Math. In this lesson, students are introduced to the story of the tortoise and the hare, only this time, the hare wins. Based on the story, the class will graph each racers trajectory, allowing for a discussion about axis, intersection points and slope.

Following a class discussion on a second graph, students will then be presented with a variety of graphs and tasked with developing a narrative based on those curves. The graphs represented vary in difficulty with the inclusion of horizontal lines, direct and partial variation, and negative and positive slopes. Students are encouraged to present their narrative in any form, whether it be as a poster, a storybook, a video or even a play.
