Let's Talk Science

"There's nothing I believe in more strongly than getting young people interested in science and engineering, for a better tomorrow, for all humankind."

- Bill Nye

While I haven't had the opportunity to teach any science lessons during my practicums, I've still been able to lead a number of science activities through both volunteering and work.  Below are some highlights from these experiences.

During the summer of 2016, I was the Camp Director for STEM Camp running out of Western University.  As the director I oversaw the staff working at that location, worked with parents to ensure the best possible week for their children and helped with the STEM activities done every day.  The activities highlighted in the pictures are part of the numerous resources I can bring to a science classroom.

I have been volunteering with Let's Talk Science for two years now.  With this organization, I've been visiting both classrooms and community centers to give fun, hands-on science lessons to kids of all ages.  In March of 2016, I was recognized as the volunteer of the month.  The exert below is from the bio that was featured on the LTS website.

Volunteer of the Month

As a product of Northern Ontario, my passion for the outdoors translated into completing my undergraduate degree in Environmental Engineering at Carleton University.  I’ve been fortunate enough to be able to work in such an incredible field though I’ve since enjoyed transitioning into the Bachelor of Education program at Western where I just finished my first year.

Let’s Talk Science gives me the opportunity to share my passion and introduce students to the incredible possibilities available to them in STEM. What I love most about LTS is their focus on making science fun through hand-on, inquiry based learning.  There is nothing better than seeing kids laughing, smiling and enjoying themselves while being introduced to topics that they may continue to pursue thanks to the introduction provided by LTS.

In addition to being able to teach General Science, I am taking an additional basic qualification in Environmental Sciences in the Summer of 2017.
