Mathematics

Having taught almost exclusively in math so far, one of the big hurdles I've noticed in students is the perception that math has to be hard. I remember one grade 10 student finishing a problem and trying to find the catch because he actually understood it.  Math doesn't have to be hard though.  It doesn't have to be scary either.  Math is such an essential skill and my focus has been to make it more accessible to students through fun, hands-on and interactive lessons.  In this section you'll see some ways I've tried to do just that.

Lesson plans that I've created which incorporate these beliefs are available for you to view.

Mathnasium Tutor

I have been a Mathnasium tutor since the spring of 2017.  Mathnasium is a center that teaches children to understand math in an individual setting with a focus on building a math foundation, learning problem solving skills, addressing different levels of knowledge, helping with test preparation and assisting with homework.

OAME Conference 2017

In May of 2017, I presented at the 2017 Ontario Association for Math Educators annual conference.  Presenting at this conference requires an extensive application process and I was fortunate enough to be able to share my work on introducing math concepts through coding to educators from across the province. Beyond presenting at this conference, attending sessions lead by other math educators helped expand my knowledge of methods, tools and tricks for teaching math.
