Battle Bots

As part of my second Alternative Field Experience I taught in a  TEJ 3M course, during which one of the projects the students worked on were battle bots using Lego Mindstorms NXT.  At the beginning of this unit, the students were taught about the different sensors and provided a variety of related tasks to work on.  Once these tasks were mastered, they proceeded to making battle robots which were used to compete in a tournament.

The following videos show the three sensors being put into action.  The light sensor kept the robots in the black square, the touch sensor was used for walls, and the ultasonic sensor allowed the robots to navigate a maze. The final video shows what the robots can do when in the ring!
